WHAT DO FILMS BRING TO YOUR MIND?
For most people, I bet they think of entertainment.
The jolly laughter brought about by the perfectly delivered line in a comedy, or the screams of terror lurking in the shadows of a horror movie. The wild car chases or the tense dialogue in action films and drama.
For me, films are something much, much deeper. Films are an artistic expression. A lens into how someone views their community, their country and their planet. And one of the most powerful mediums we have for making change in this world.
Hi, I’m Mark Locki, and I’m a documentary Producer and Director based in Calgary, Alberta and Chihuahua, Mexico.

My personal documentary work focuses on environmental and social issues, with a strong affinity for personal stories of overcoming challenges. As a Political Science graduate with a specialization in international development and a professional background in immigration, I have a deep interest in topics surrounding changing cultures, our cities and environment, development and immigration.
What I’ve come to realize over the last few years is that it’s not enough to just create powerful stories.
Every story needs a plan for how to create the impact they want to achieve. I love figuring out the best ways to contribute to making the changes needed in our society through video and film. From development to impact, I bring stories from ideation to action.
My films have screened at International film festivals such as Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, Whistler Film Festival, Mountainfilm and NorthwestFest, won awards at Newport Beach Film Festival, Atlanta Docufest, and Paladino d’Oro Sport Film Festival, screened for Congress Members on Capitol Hill in Washington DC, with partner nonprofits across Canada and the US, and have been broadcast on regional television in Canada. I was also a participant in the Alberta Media Production Industry Association Bespoke Producer Mentorship Program in 2024.
In addition to independent documentaries, I work with nonprofit and cause-oriented brands to tell their stories through branded content and documentary storytelling.
When not behind the camera, in the edit bay or planning impact strategies, you’ll find me in the mountains hiking, running and skiing, finding the best food in whatever city I happen to be in (whether its a fine-dining restaurant or the neighbourhood taco stand) or on the patio in front of the BBQ, cooking up a storm.
